This cycle is 20.2 miles and will take about 1hr 40 minutes. The route takes you through the villages of Ladykirk, Swinton and Whitsome before returning to Paxton via Hilton and the B6461.
1. Leave Paxton on the B6461 in the direction of Kelso. Proceed along this road leaving Paxton House behind you on the left. Eventually you will pass Winfield Farm on the right. Just past the farm turn left towards Horndean and Ladykirk. Continue on this road through the picturesque hamlet of Horndean and up the hill towards Laykirk.

2. On reaching the village of Laykirk you will pass the very impressive church on your right. Continue through the village and downhill before reaching the junction with the B6470 at the bottom.

4. Proceed along this road and up the hill, turning left at the cottages at the top. Follow this road past an egg farm on the left and continue until you reach a T Junction. Turn right and carry on along this road, through the hamlet of South Laws, following the road as it bends to the left and up a hill. At the top of the hill you will see a farm immediately ahead. Follow the road past the farm as it bends to the right and carry until you reach another T Junction. Turn right and follow the road past Ravelaw B&B, some house on the right and up a small hill before reaching a junction with the B6437.
5. Turn left and proceed up the hill passing a church on your right and through the village of Whtsome. Once you have left the village take the first right turn towards "Smiths Skip Hire".
6. Follow the road up a small hill and take the first turning on the left. You will see a Hilton sign on the right just as you turn. This is a long road and will take you up a hill and past Hilton Mains on your right and some cottages on the left. Continue on this road for anther mile before the road bends to the left (Winfield Farm on the right). This road continues for quite a while until eventually after passing through a tunnel of trees the junction with the main road appears ahead.
7. Turn left at the junction and rejoin the B6461 to return back to Paxton. Turn left opposite Paxton House and then turn right into Paxton. At the end of the road turn right to arrive at the Cross Inn for some well earned refreshment.
