Melrose Cycle

Leaderfoot Viaduct to the Chain Bridge
There are many cycling routes from Melrose town centre. This is a circular cycle starting and ending at the Leaderfoot Viaduct. It is about 6 miles, following footpaths and roads.

1. From the A68 turn off at the Leaderfoot Viaduct viewing point. At the river turn left and cycle uphill under the viaduct until you reach the site of the old Roman fort at the top, known as Trimontium. Continue to follow the cycle path downhill and into the village of Newstead.

2. Turn right onto the B6361and follow the road to Melrose. Approaching Melrose you will see the abbey on the left. Just before the road bends to the left go straight over and join the footpath heading towards the River Tweed. and The Chain Bridge

3. On reaching the Chain Bridge walk across and continue cycling straight ahead at the end. Turn right at the junction onto the B6360 and proceed through the village of Gattonside. Continue on this road with beautiful views over the river valley. Eventually you will pass under the viaduct and immediately before the road bridge turn right onto the Drygrange Old Bridge. Cross the river and return to the viewing point.
