East Dean

East Dean

The tranquil village of East Dean in East Sussex is situated within the South Downs and just a short distance from the chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters at Birling Gap. East Dean lies on the bus route between Eastbourne and Brighton and Birling Gap can be reached on foot across the beautiful downs.  The "Tiger Inn" sits beside the pretty village green and is popular with walkers and visitors.

The village dates back to at least Saxon times when the church was built. This was later improved by the Normans. During the 1300's the village was under constant threat of French Raids and is thought that during these times the villagers hid in the church.
