Belle Tout Lighthouse

Belle Tout Lighthouse

The Belle Tout Lighthouse it a decommissioned lighthouse situated on the cliffs at Beachy Head in East Sussex within the Seven Sisters Country Park.  The Lighthouse was built in 1829 and became operational in 1834. Unfortunately the cliff top location caused problems when sea mists obscured the light and in 1902 a new lighthouse was built at the foot of the cliff. In 1999 when erosion of the cliffs threatened the foundations of the lighthouse it was moved 56ft back away from the cliff face.

The lighthouse has been used for filming several times, has been a family home and now fully restored is a Bed and Breakfast. The Belle Tout lighthouse is easily accessible by foot, car or bus from Eastbourne or Birling Gap.
