Spittal Beach

Spittal Beach

Spittal Beach is located on the Northumberland Coast, just south of  Berwick-Upon-Tweed. Spittal village stands on the south bank of the River Tweed and dates back to the middle ages when a hospital, dedicated to St Bartholomew was built there to care for lepers. In time Spittal became a seaside resort and the Victorian promenade was built in 1928.  The beautiful sandy beach has views out to sea taking in Berwick Pier and back towards the town of Berwick Upon Tweed. It is a favourite with families and well worth a visit.
